I was born and lived most of my teens in Pantai Remis. Pantai Remis is a coastal, fishing village of Perak famous for its delicious fresh seafood. Today it boasts of close to 17,000 residents but 15 years ago when I was sixteen it was much less populated.
My family lived in one of those many rather large wooden houses where the toilet and bathroom were separate constructions away from the house but conveniently nearby. The house was big and many relatives stayed with us. An extended house was later constructed to accommodate all of us. I remembered staying in the newer house.
There was this uncle , my father's younger brother who was ten years older than me who developed some eccentric behavior. I remembered vividly how he used to eat standing up while all the family sat down . But we had ample space and chairs. Other times he would be standing mumbling to himself oblivious to the surroundings or writing indecipherable text on pieces of paper.
As days passed by. this uncle's condition got worse. After consulting doctors but to no avail my family was convinced that this problem was spiritual rather physical . A medium told us that my uncle was possessed by seven female spirits. Without delay , we contacted some Taoist exorcists.
One evening about ten p.m. three Taoist exorcists came. The exorcism was to be done in the front yard of the original house . I was in the bedroom of the other house . Against a dark and silent night the shrieks and wailing were eerie and unnatural as the exorcists performed the rituals. The session continued for quite a while andI had to go the the washroom. The washroom was away from the houses but in-between the two. I ran to it as the screams became louder and louder. Quickly I locked the door. Amidst the uncanny female high pitched cries I looked out the window. Suddenly a green dazzling flash of a ghostly face stared at me through the window panes for a few seconds and vanished! I remember vividly that it was a woman's face with long black hair . It was a picture of agony and distraught.
The next day I heard six of the seven spirits were driven out but alas one was still there. My uncle recovered almost completely. Sadly however there was and still is , a remnant lingering strange behavior in him up till today.
